The concept was developed by Sarah Imler, who created a space where particularly young, digital audiences can feel comfortable. Every year, the exhibition in Wels becomes a vibrant meeting point for the German-speaking book and online community. The program focuses on current genres such as Young Adult, New Adult, and Romance — including Dark Romance, as well as Fantasy and Romantic Fantasy, which are largely shaped by social media trends. This is where Buchrausch finds its niche, acting as an interface between the book market and platforms like TikTok, where the BookTok community has become a powerful driver of new bestsellers. A defining feature of Buchrausch is the clear emphasis on interaction rather than passive presentation. Visitors can expect not a detached exhibition environment, but an immersive experience with live readings, panel discussions, and direct meetings with authors, influencers, and publishers. Book signings, meet-and-greets, and informal conversations coexist with carefully curated moments for social media at special selfie spots and appearances by well-known BookTok creators.
